We are...Web Detectives

We have been reviewing how 'Search Engines' work and how web pages are ranked.

We now know that search engines do not search the entire World Wide Web, instead they search carefully constructed indexes for keywords - these indexes are created by special, automated programs called 'Web Crawlers'.  The search engines then use complex algorithms to order the search results.

We have also learned that web pages are ranked by: how often it is updated, how well it is written and how many other pages link to the web page.

After being fooled by the 'www.petroldirect.com' website, we began to recognise & evaluate the reliability of different types of information found on the World Wide Web.

Having become expert 'Web Detectives', we decided to find some news items to see if you can spot which ones are fake.
