January 2023 (Spring Term)

September 2022 (Autumn Term)

Tuesday 7th December

Good morning Robins!

Please let me know when you've had your results back. Hopefully, you have managed to log onto Google Classroom so that you can join me for a Google Meet at 10am. It will be lovely to see you and we can have a chat about the work for today. If you would like to have a go at designing a 3D Christmas card today, hopefully you'll be able to use your designs next week at school. There are some fantastic ideas on the internet.

Hope to see you at 10am.

Monday 6th December 2021      Robins Bubble Closure

Good afternoon Robins!

I hope you have all managed to book in for your PCR test. I had mine today in Wellington and it was really easy. Hopefully we will be back to school soon.

I have emailed you all on Purple Mash and I have also emailed your parents. It is very important that you have a look at all the wonderful activities I have put on there so that you can continue your learning. They are all linked to what we have been working on in class. You don't need to do all the activities, just choose the ones you can do by yourself.

I have also put some activities on Google Classroom. Again, choose the activities you feel comfortable doing. Don't forget your times tables on 'Times Table Rockstars'.

I will be having a Google Meet on Google Classroom at 10am tomorrow. I will send the link through just before. I can't wait to see your smiley faces!

Have a lovely evening and I will speak to you tomorrow. Stay safe and happy!

Did you know it's World Book Day on Thursday 4th March?

Celebrating World Book Day at home

This year’s World Book Day theme is ‘share a story’. You can encourage your child to share a story with the people they live with. These could include getting grandparents or other family members to read stories over video chat; setting aside a family reading time when everyone at home all read their own books or magazines; building a cosy reading den with cushions in a corner, or a sheet draped over chairs to make a tent; read a story or chapter and then act it out together.

I hope you enjoy World Book Day 2021!

Positivity Jar

This week, if your children would like to, we would love them to create a special jar, in which they write down their daily positives and gratitude’s. Studies show that by identifying daily gratitude’s can lead to a happier and healthier mental well-being. What are you grateful for today?

Monday 25th January 2021

Lie down, close your eyes and relax while you listen to this story on YouTube. It's one of my favourites.

"Bye-Bye Butterflies: Seven Ways To Breathe Out Worry" is a story about Helmut the Hedgehog, an primary school pupil, who notices that he is carrying around uncomfortable feelings. Helmut is unsure about how to let go of his worries until he goes on an adventure with an unexpected outcome. The intention of this story is to support children, parents, and families in developing self-care, self-regulation, and stress management strategies. The book is for ages 3-100.   Mrs G

Wednesday 13th January. Google Classroom Meeting.

Hi everyone!

It's been fantastic seeing most of you on Google Meet every morning at 10am. Ronald and I have enjoyed hearing about the fantastic things you've been working on at home. Today, I have been uploading English, Geography, History and Science activities onto Google Classroom. I have found some fantastic videos and teaching sessions which are linked to The Oak Academy. It's very important you have a go at everything I have uploaded. Please email me if you have any problems accessing the learning.

Well done Robins!

Mrs Griffiths and Ronald

Problem Solving Google Classroom

If a child says they can't log on/access their classroom

Normally, this is because there is another default gmail account logged in. Make sure the child has logged out of all other accounts before logging in under their account. This way, all of the classrooms appear, and the Google Meet appears.

If a child is using a mobile or tablet

To access Google Meet on such a device, you first have to install the Google Meet App. The child will be able to access the Google Classroom without installing any app, but to access the live lessons this will have to be installed first. Again, make sure that they have logged out of all other google accounts before trying to access the live lessons first! Mrs G

Have a go Robins! Below is Tilly's entry. She has worked very hard over the last week. Well done Tilly!

Shimmers lucky day

Shimmer was a small chestnut foal, she was very furry, and she had stubby legs and a black muzzle. One morning Shimmer felt down in the dumps so she went to find some food. She went into the damp gloomy woods, finally she found a lush green field with beautiful grass .Luckily it was not fenced so she started munching eagerly. She nearly ate around the whole field but not quite. After a few minutes, she was full, so she lay down and had a rest.

Just as she was about to close her eyes she saw a glint of sparkles. She went to see what it was, it was a shine jewel it was purpley pink, and she touched it twice.   She felt some tingling but she ignored it.

Suddenly she felt quite thirsty, so she went to find some water. She found a pond and she drank a little and saw her reflection. Her eyes widened and she realised she had some wings, a horn and shiny hooves.  She blinked as if she was in a dream but nothing happened. She was so excited! She could not wait to show her mum .She tried flapping her wings and there she was flying home!

Well-being Activity

Connecting with others really helps our mental health.  This has been harder than normal during lock down and we are all missing our friends and family.  Your well being activity this week is to create or make something and give it to someone else.  You might decide to bake a cake for a friend and leave it on their doorstep (remember to stick to the social distancing rules!) You could write a letter or poem and post it to relative you haven't seen in a while.  Or how about recording a song or message and sending it to your friends.  We are looking forward to seeing some of your ideas.

Robins Well- being activity

Cheerio Bird Feeder

Thankfully, during lockdown we have been very lucky with the weather and nature has been at its best. One of the greatest uplifting sounds around us has been birdsong and every bird seems to have been singing its heart out.

Here is an activity that will help us repay those birds for all of the pleasure that they are giving us – you will need some Cheerios and pipe cleaners, old wire coat hangers or string.

All you have to do is thread those Cheerios onto the pipe cleaners and make them into a shape of your choice. This can then be hung on a nearby tree or window ledge and then you can just wait for the birds to arrive and feed.

Listening to bird song is an excellent Mindfulness activity that can relax you and help with anxiety. In the garden or at an open window, get your children to simply get comfortable, close their eyes and listen……..see how many different sounds your child can identify – different pitches and rhythms all of which are joyful and uplifting, Afterwards your child may be able to impersonate the sounds that they have heard.

By looking at the type of birds that are visiting your garden, you could make a tally of the different kinds,  research their species and try to associate the sounds that you have been hearing with particular birds.

Happy listening! Mrs Griffiths

Religion and Worldviews

This term Robins will be learning about what Muslims believe about Islam and Iman. Here are our aims:

By the end of this unit pupils will be able to:

  • understand that although Allah created everything, humans have been given the responsibility to look after that creation.

  • recall that Muhammad taught Muslims that there are 99 names for Allah which describe what He is like.

  • raise and suggest answers to relevant questions in response to what they have learnt about the Islamic belief in Allah and Khalifah.

  • associate artefacts like prayer mats, mosques and the Qur’an with Islam.

  • use the word ‘Muslim’ correctly to refer to a follower of the religion of Islam.

  • identify Muhammad as a man who is deeply respected in in Islam as the Messenger of God.

  • recall the story of the first revelation Muhammad received – the Night of Power: understand that Islam teaches that Muhammad told many others what the revelations were. They wrote down the Words that had been revealed to Muhammad. What they wrote formed a book – the holy Qur’an.

  • understand that the Qur’an is treated with great respect by Muslims, including that it is often kept in a stand, kept above all other books, is sometimes wrapped in a cloth, a Muslim will wash their hands before touching the book.

  • raise and suggest answers to relevant questions in response to the story of Muhammad’s first revelation.

  • identify the two main beliefs of Islam as: the belief in only one God and the belief that Muhammad is the Messenger of God (Shahadah)

  • understand that praying 5 times a day (Salah), which is prescribed in the Qur’an, is one way Muslims submit to the will of Allah.

  • raise and suggest answers to relevant questions in response to what they have learnt about the Islamic belief in submitting to the will of Allah and the practice of Salah.

Pupils will know:

  • that Muslims call God ‘Allah’ which means “The God” (Al-Lah)

  • Muslims believe that Allah created all things which exist.

  • Islam means “Submission (to the will of Allah)” and the word Muslims means someone who has willingly submitted themselves to Allah.

  • the sujud position (prostration) reflects Muslim submission as a physical act.

  • Prayer can take place anywhere, as God created everything

  • Muslims believe that Muhammad had many revelations over 22 years.

  • Muslims believe that the angel Gabriel was ‘sent down’ with God’s holy book – the Mother of the Book. This was the book that was shown to Muhammad. So the Qur’an is a copy of God’s holy book.

  • that God’s message is known as the ‘Straight Path’ or the Shariah.

The activities the children can use to help with this will be available over on the class Religion and Worldview page.

Please log on to White Rose for the video clips and activities. If you are having problems printing please draw/write out the work in an exercise book or on paper. If you are having any problems please Email me. Mrs G
