We have been discovering the difference between the World Wide Web (WWW) and the Internet.

We have learned that the World Wide Web is NOT the Internet!!

We have discovered that the World Wide Web is a collection of websites & webpages, that we use to search for information, via a Web browser or search engine.

The Internet is made up of cables, fibre, routers, switches etc. that connects computers together via a network, locally and around the world.

We use the Internet to:

  • access the WWW;
  • send emails;
  • watch films & videos
  • send pictures;
  • telephone or video call our friends & family;
  • play online games;
  • do our shopping online, etc.

We have also learned the difference between Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs), by investigating how our school computers are connected to each other and to the outside world, as well as how multi-national companies are connected to each other.
