We have been discovering the difference between the World Wide Web (WWW) and the Internet.
We have now learnt that the WWW is a collection of over 60 trillion web pages held on powerful computers all over the world.
We have discovered that the internet is made up of cables, fibre, routers, switches etc. that connects computers together, or networks of computers to one another. We use the Internet to access the WWW, as well as send emails, watch films & videos, send pictures, telephone or video call our friends & family, play online games, do our shopping online, etc.
We have also learnt the difference between Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs), by investigating how our school computers are connected to each other and to the outside world, as well as how multi-national companies are connected to each other.
